Inside the Cha das Caldeiras (1600m) is the Pico de Fogo (2829m). It is hard to get up, because there is no real way up in black sand. In the middle of the island is a big old caldeira called Cha das Caldeiras in about 1600m. The caldeira has a diameter from about 8km. Mosteiros is the second largest village in the northern part of the Fogo. You can walk down from the caldeira or Pico to this village in one day.
